Reuze Mug II is een monumentale metaalsculptuur die werd ontworpen voor Natura Inspiratus 2022 in de Plantentuin Meise. Voor de tentoonstelling kreeg de kunstenaar een specifieke locatie toegewezen, waarna het ontwerp volledig ontstond vanuit de eigenheid van die plek. De sculptuur werd niet bedacht om de omgeving te overheersen, maar om er haast ongemerkt deel van uit te maken.
Met een breedte van 310 cm en vervaardigd uit cortenstaal, recuperatiestaal en epoxy oogt de reuzenmug tegelijk monumentaal en verrassend fragiel. Door haar open structuur, fijne lijnen en natuurlijke kleur lijkt het kunstwerk bijna op te lossen tussen de vegetatie. Pas wanneer de bezoeker vertraagt en aandachtig kijkt, openbaart de sculptuur zich volledig. Zo nodigt het werk uit tot een andere manier van kijken, waarin verwondering, observatie en de relatie tussen kunst en natuur centraal staan.

Moustique géant II est une sculpture métallique monumentale conçue pour l’exposition Natura Inspiratus 2022 au Jardin botanique de Meise. Pour cette exposition, l’artiste s’est vu attribuer un emplacement spécifique, et la conception de l’œuvre a ensuite entièrement découlé du caractère unique de ce lieu. La sculpture n’a pas été imaginée pour dominer son environnement, mais pour s’y fondre de manière presque imperceptible.
D’une largeur de 310 cm et réalisée en acier Corten, en acier de récupération et en époxy, le « moustique géant » apparaît à la fois monumental et étonnamment fragile. Grâce à sa structure ouverte, ses lignes fines et sa couleur naturelle, l’œuvre d’art semble presque se fondre dans la végétation. Ce n’est que lorsque le visiteur ralentit le pas et observe attentivement que la sculpture se révèle pleinement. Giant Mosquito II is a monumental metal sculpture designed for Natura Inspiratus 2022 at the Meise Botanical Garden. For the exhibition, the artist was assigned a specific location, after which the design emerged entirely from the unique character of that spot. The sculpture was not conceived to dominate its surroundings, but to become part of them almost imperceptibly.
Measuring 310 cm in width and crafted from Corten steel, recycled steel and epoxy, the giant mosquito appears both monumental and surprisingly fragile. Thanks to its open structure, delicate lines and natural colour, the artwork seems almost to dissolve into the vegetation. It is only when the visitor slows down and looks closely that the sculpture reveals itself fully. Für die Ausstellung wurde dem Künstler ein bestimmter Standort zugewiesen, woraufhin der Entwurf vollständig aus der Einzigartigkeit dieses Ortes heraus entstand. Die Skulptur wurde nicht konzipiert, um die Umgebung zu dominieren, sondern um sich fast unbemerkt in sie einzufügen.
Mit einer Breite von 310 cm und gefertigt aus Cortenstahl, wiederverwertetem Stahl und Epoxidharz wirkt die Riesenmücke zugleich monumental und überraschend zerbrechlich.
