Ode aan Serafini I & II zijn twee monumentale metaalsculpturen die speciaal werden ontworpen voor Natura Inspiratus 2022 in de Plantentuin Meise. De sculpturen werden geplaatst in een holle boom, waar ze een vanzelfsprekende verbinding aangaan met hun omgeving. Het ontwerp ontstond niet vanuit de wens om de natuur te domineren, maar om er volledig in op te gaan en haar eigen karakter te versterken.
De inspiratie voor deze sculpturen vond Stefaan Schreel in de Codex Seraphinianus, het mysterieuze en imaginaire universum van Luigi Serafini. Net als in dit bijzondere boek lijken de organische vormen een eigen, onbekende wereld op te roepen. Vervaardigd uit cortenstaal, epoxy en glas vormen de sculpturen een subtiele ontmoeting tussen natuur, verbeelding en vakmanschap.
Door zorgvuldig in te spelen op de vorm, textuur en sfeer van de eeuwenoude boom vervagen de grenzen tussen kunst en natuur. De sculpturen lijken niet toegevoegd aan de omgeving, maar eruit gegroeid, waardoor de bezoeker wordt uitgenodigd om stil te staan bij de verborgen schoonheid en het mysterie van de natuurlijke wereld.

Ode à Serafini I & II sont deux sculptures métalliques monumentales spécialement conçues pour Natura Inspiratus 2022 au Jardin botanique de Meise. Les sculptures ont été installées dans un arbre creux, où elles s’intègrent naturellement à leur environnement. Le projet n’est pas né d’une volonté de dominer la nature, mais de s’y fondre pleinement et d’en renforcer le caractère propre.

Ode to Serafini I & II are two monumental metal sculptures designed specifically for Natura Inspiratus 2022 at the Meise Botanical Garden. The sculptures have been placed inside a hollow tree, where they form a natural connection with their surroundings. The design did not arise from a desire to dominate nature, but to blend in completely with it and enhance its own character.
Stefaan Schreel drew inspiration for these sculptures from the *Codex Seraphinianus*, Luigi Serafini’s mysterious and imaginary universe. Just as in this extraordinary book, the organic forms seem to evoke a world of their own, unknown to us. Crafted from Corten steel, epoxy and glass, the sculptures represent a subtle convergence of nature, imagination and craftsmanship.
By carefully responding to the shape, texture and atmosphere of the ancient tree, the boundaries between art and nature become blurred. The sculptures do not appear to have been added to the surroundings, but rather to have grown out of them, inviting visitors to reflect on the hidden beauty and mystery of the natural world.

Die Skulpturen wurden in einem hohlen Baum platziert, wo sie eine ganz natürliche Verbindung zu ihrer Umgebung eingehen. Der Entwurf entstand nicht aus dem Wunsch heraus, die Natur zu dominieren, sondern um sich vollständig in sie einzufügen und ihren eigenen Charakter zu unterstreichen.
Die Inspiration für diese Skulpturen fand Stefaan Schreel im „Codex Seraphinianus“, dem geheimnisvollen und imaginären Universum von Luigi Serafini.
